Shaping Sound
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Based on the acoustic foundations, this course provides a methodology and hands-on experiments in sound design for a variety of musical applications, using both physical and digital tools. The course is intended for instrumentalists and composers, but can also be attended by students from other fields.
Having access to a computer, to install and work with Open Source Software (Audacity, Csound, SuperCollider), is a requirement.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Design and create sounds for a variety of musical applications
- Plan, implement and write about sound design experiments
- Use open source software to record, synthesize and process sound signals
ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
There will be 5 assignments over the duration of the course, with each having equal weighting.
DELIVERY INFORMATION AND COURSE REQUIREMENTS
There will be three live-sessions via Zoom, and seven pre-recorded video units provided via the mdw-moodle online platform. For each unit, several shorter videos will be provided, including introductions to the topic, tutorials, and interviews.
