Welcome to the Global Conservatoire

The Global Conservatoire launched in 2021–22 with eight pilot courses.

The Global Conservatoire is a digital learning environment, or “global classroom,” presented by Manhattan School of Music, the Royal College of Music (London), the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the program’s newest partner (as of April 2023), the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

The program brings faculty and students from each of the five institutional partners into asynchronous online classrooms, cultivating an international exchange of ideas and allowing students from five conservatories in three different time zones to work at their own pace, completing courses around busy rehearsal and practice schedules.

An ambitious program that will expand each institutional partner’s course offerings and open up a new and flexible world of asynchronous courses against a rich cultural backdrop, the Global Conservatoire launched in 2021–22 with eight pilot courses.

The program’s online curriculum provides access to subjects unique to each partner school.

Students in the Global Conservatoire gain new perspectives on a range of music studies, while never having to leave their home institution. Drawing from the expertise of faculty from each of the program partners, the program’s online curriculum provides access to subjects unique to each partner school. And, although asynchronous to allow maximum flexibility in student and faculty schedules, each course includes synchronous, online sessions to build and deepen the relationship between instructors and students.

The first year or pilot phase of the program offered eight courses in 2021–22 and continues with the Global Conservatoire’s course catalog expanding each year during the partnership’s first five years. The resulting courses will provide students with a diverse choice, with offerings equally apportioned among the five partner schools.

A virtual, transnational academic hub or ‘global college town.’

The Global Conservatoire, which is available to both undergraduate and graduate students, draws on its partners’ wide-ranging background and extensive collaboration in distance learning. By consolidating its partners’ collective experience in the digital realm and unique subject expertise, the Global Conservatoire becomes a groundbreaking flagship program that transcends borders, connecting students from five prominent international conservatories into what will eventually become a virtual, transnational academic hub or ‘global college town.’

Global Conservatoire in the Digital Age (GLOCODA) is an Erasmus+ project financed with support from the European Commission.

GLOCODA is part of Global Conservatoire, a digital collaboration between five partner institutions: The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM), Royal College of Music (RCM), Manhattan School of Music (MSM), University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
