Musical Theatre Dance
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course teaches dance techniques and styles necessary for a career in musical theatre. Class begins with a warm-up based on the techniques of Katherine Dunham and Jack Cole; center floor will focus on a wide range of musical theatre dance styles.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course students will be able to:
- Quickly pick-up and precisely perform intermediate level dance combination.
- Embody Character through dance.
- Demonstrate mastery of intermediate level dance technique: turns, jumps, extension, placement, flexibility.
- Execute a variety of musical theatre dance styles including: Charleston, Lindy, Waltz, Latin Forms and classic musical theatre repertoire including choreography by Agnes de Mille, Jack Cole, Jerome Robbins, Peter Gennaro and Susan Stroman.
