Status & Timeline

Based on the long-standing cooperation between the four partner institutions, preliminary discussions regarding the establishment of Global Conservatoire began in 2018.

In 2020, work began on a Memorandum of Understanding that would formalise this cooperation. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the four partner institutions in late 2020.

In early 2021, Global Conservatoire received a 2-year grant for a special project – Global Conservatoire for a Digital Age (GloCoDA) – under the Erasmus+ Call for Strategic Partnerships.

GloCoDA includes:

• the development of an online course catalogue
• a research paper focussing on developing a digital model for global conservatoire education
• An open online teacher training course and web resource

AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen) was invited to be a part of GloCoDA, and will contribute to the project through quality assurance and dissemination of the project findings.

 

The pioneer GC course, Music and Words, was offered by Royal College of Music (London) in the fall semester of 2021.

Since then, all four partner institutions have offered between 6-8 courses every semester.

Global Conservatoire builds upon a large international network that is centered around the four partner institutions. As such, much of the daily administration takes place online.

However, transnational meetings held twice a year allow for closer discussions, more in-depth discussions, as well as knowledge-sharing.

In March 2023, the results of the GloCoDA reseach project will be presented at the EPARM conference – European Platform for Artistic Research in Music.

EPARM 2023 is organised by AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires, Académies de Musique et Musikhochschulen) and hosted at The Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Global Conservatoire continuously evaluates the quality and efficacy of courses taught. This is done through qualitative and quantitative studies, individual and group interviews, as well as larger formats such as faculty and student meetings.

Based on these conclusions, teaching staff (previous, active, and future) will be invited to training and competency development in April 2022 in Vienna.

Global Conservatoire is being presented at a number of leading conferences and publications.
