GC students invited to Transnational meeting for the Carl Nielsen Project

GC students invited to Transnational meeting for the Carl Nielsen Project

This academic year, the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) has a particular focus on the music of Danish composer, conductor, and violinist Carl Nielsen. In the fall of 2025, GC faculty member Søren Schauser taught a course for students of the Global Conservatoire on Carl Nielsen’s instrumental music, and in the spring of 2026 Schauser focusses on Nielsens’ Vocal repertoire in the course ‘Songs that shaped a nation’.

Students from all GC institutions who completed last semester’s course on Carl Nielsens instrumental music have been offered a GC Live Lab masterclass with RDAM faculty, working on Carl Nielsen’s repertoire. Most students are working with works from the core repertoire, while a few are working with arrangements for instruments for which Carl Nielsen did not write, such as guitar and saxophone. These masterclasses make use of the MVTP low latency technique, and take place over the course of three weeks in February 2026.

Selected students from the GC institutions have been invited to RDAM in April as part of the annual GC Transnational Meeting, where they will further develop their work with the faculty based on what they have been working on during the online masterclasses. The students will be in Kopenhagen or five days, and the week will conclude with a concert.
