Course: “Elements of Sound Part I&II”
Petra Stump-Linshalm is a clarinettist and composer whose artistic work spans classical repertoire, contemporary music, improvisation, and experimental formats. She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As a soloist and chamber musician, she performs internationally and is deeply engaged in the creation and interpretation of new music.
Over 160 composers have written works for her and her ensembles, contributing significantly to the development of the clarinet repertoire. Her recordings have been released on numerous international labels, and her portrait album Fantasy Studies (2018), featuring her own compositions, received particular critical attention.
Her work has been recognised with several awards, including the SKE Publicity Prize (2020), first prize at the Trondheim Sinfonietta Call for Scores (2022), and the Austrian State Scholarship for Composition (2025). Her compositions have been presented at leading international festivals and were selected for the ISCM World New Music Days in 2023 and 2026.
Alongside her artistic work, Petra is an active music educator and mediator, with a strong focus on engaging young audiences. She develops workshops, concerts, and educational materials, including the clarinet method CLARINET UPDATE – Neue Musik für junge Klarinettisten. Since 2012, she has been Senior Lecturer for chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
